Why take Omega 3?

Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid, which means that the body does not produce it itself. Therefore, it must be obtained through diet or as a dietary supplement. Who should take Omega 3?

The short answer to this is that everyone should take Omega 3, if they are unable to get the daily recommendation through their diet. The recommendation from the Norwegian Directorate of Health is that five to ten percent of the body's daily energy intake should come from polyunsaturated fatty acids, of which one percent should come from Omega 3. This corresponds to 300 to 450 grams of fish per week, with about half coming from oily fish such as salmon and trout. Other good sources are vegetable oils from rapeseed, walnuts and chia seeds.

What kinds of supplements are on the market?
